New to the forum, but I don’t believe I saw this question asked anywhere else. I’m signed up for the June 18 MCAT with scores set to post July 19. I’m debating waiting the required 48 hours after June 18 then signing up for a second test for sometime in late August. Is this a bad move? My last practice test was in March and fell short (494) but I’ve been focusing my studies more since then, know I can do better, and will continue taking practice tests and sections. I’ve heard many people say that scores generally don’t improve within a few months of each other but my first practice test score was a 489 (late last year).
Undergrad GPA was 3.6, grad was 3.7 and I’ve gotten A’s in my last 4 post bacc pre-reqs. Thoughts?
I didn’t know there was a 48 hour rule (might be new?). I literally stared at the “void test” screen for about 5 minutes before accepting my fate. As soon as I got to my car, I registered for Take 2. I forget the math, but it was after score release but still gave me an option to not lose all my money by canceling. If you can afford it, might as well CYA in my opinion. That way you mitigate the risk of not having time to retake for this application cycle as well.
Yeah that’s the same logic I’m going off. Thanks!
The real rush for seats is late April, all of May and early June. So in my opinion, there’s no need to rush to book a seat after the 48 hours. You’ll likely find one near you, unless there’s only 1 testing center close by and you don’t want to risk it. I did a retake in early Sept. and it was wide open. Also, you will need to start studying again IMMEDIATELY and you need to know what went wrong so you can fix it for test #2. It would be bad to score the same. Is registering for the test so quickly going to give you that info? Only you can answer that.
