There is a dearth of studies on this subject, usually just crossing of small subset of the area such as

Comparisons between older and usual-aged medical school graduates on the factors influencing their choices of primary care specialties

At some point we plan to mine the data that exists on OldPreMeds and followup on some of the docs that we have produced
