I don’t need to retake any prerequisites. My ultimate goal is just to take as many upper division courses as possible within a year. I also want to get some research experience . Does it matter where ( large public research U or state U, top-notch or average) I go to my DIY post-bac?I am leaning towards State U since I’ll have a better chance to ace those courses. I graduate with a BA from the UWashington. Thanks guys!
My first thought is that it can be really, really hard to get a research position without being a matriculate student. I don’t know that you can’t, but I’ve never known anyone in research who wasn’t either matriculated or employed. The basic function of having non-matriculated students is to put paying butts in seats of classes that would otherwise have empty seats. Someone else who’s done a DIY may know better than me.
Have you considered getting a job as a laboratory technician? That would pay rather than cost you, and you might even get free classes besides.
Aside from the research issue, my recommendation would be a large state university, preferably one with an associated medical school and/or a school of public health. This school would be more likely to have medically relevant courses available, will have more higher-level courses to choose from, and will have more seats in its courses.
Should have proofread my post. Actually, I am admitted as a second-degree seeking student at both UW Madison (~28k/year) and UNC Greensboro (~21k/year). I am still deciding whether its worth spending more to go to a more reputable school.
@Fedaykin Thanks for your advice. I was a student research during junior year. Couldn’t keep up with the course load so I quit after a year.
