Pardon the urban vernacular, but I was wondering where everyone is with their MCAT review. I’m almost finished with Bio and have started my Orgo review.
Hello, I am currently studying for the MCAT (August test date) using the Kaplan course. We are just completing the first 1/3 of the Bio/GChem/OChem/Physics material. My strength is Physics and weakness is Verbal. So far, so good. I am using the Kaplan course to complete the homework assignments and EK for the reading.
Thanks for responding, I was starting to think I was the on,y one prepping for the MCAT.
After doing some research and completing a few practice questions, I’ve decided to take the new MCAT in Spring 2015. It seems to play on my strength my research background, in terms of how the questions are structured. The questions also seem more “related” to the type of critical thinking skills needed to become a good Clinician.
Hi There!,
I am new to the forum, and saw that you are studying for the MCAT. I too am studying. Am hoping to take the test before the end of August (2014). Have been looking for someone to go over questions/topics with via Skype or Facetime. Are you still moving forward with you test prep?

Hey Sara,
Hope your studying is going well!!
I had to put my MCAT study on temporary hold after a medical issue, and I don't have plans to pick it back up again until I finish this semester in ~3 weeks.
I'm also taking the new MCAT in 2015.
I delayed my MCAT again for the fourth time. I am looking at either November 2014 or 2015. To prepare for the latter, I am adding more emphasis on biochemistry. I was a biochem major for the 2nd bachelor’s but I am rapidly forgetting the material.
So having tentatively decided on a date (assuming every other pre-med won’t be “bum rushing” to get this date as well), I’m planning to take the new MCAT on April 18, 2015.
I just started my “official” review with verbal reasoning hoping to get a better rate of return on this section that I did the last time. My score was pretty decent but certainly not equivalent to all the effort I put in.
my status is that I’m Waaayy behind you!! hopefully, that’s praise and encouragement for you, while also a “kick in the pants” for me!
I could have possibly taken the old just under the wire, but decided to just focus on the new requirements. Since I only had bio and micro in undergrad, I’m hoping that taking the premeds now, as a grad, will give me credit and review at the same time. Hey, it’s a theory…
I want to thank Accenture for turning my managing director role down and not extending me an offer. While most people would be severely dejected, I knew in my heart, if I was extended said offer, I would accept.
Hence, by rejecting me you solidified my decision.
Thank you. From the bottom of my heart. I think you are a great firm, and deserving of the stellar reputation you hold.
Those who persevere triumph.
And MCAT, you are mine. I will kick your ass on January 15, 2015. I will bust my own ass to kick yours… and then I will hope that somewhere, maybe there is a seat for me.
Paid for Kaplan today as well
RE: doc2be
DaaaMMnnnnn!!
If I was the MCAT, I’d b running for my life rite now…
URGH, I forgot about this thread but it’s a much needed reminder to get it back in gear!
I decided against taking the April MCAT because I wasn’t interested in being an MCAT tesing guinea pig. Right now, I’m focused in verbal for the rest of the summer and will pick up a science subject in the next month. I’ve also decided to purchase the new EK books next month too and will develop a plan after taking a look at them and seeing what others are doing. Next Fall/Spring, I’m taking courses in Psy and Socio, respectively as those are my weak points. So that puts me at taking the MCAT some time in the Spring of 2016, probably April.
I signed up to take the MCAT this August at the end of the month. I’m excited but really anxious about it.
I’m currently enrolled in a Kaplan review course, but with working full-time (I can’t afford to cut back my hours), my prep course, and raising 2 little kids, I’m worried that I’m not giving myself enough time to study. I wake up early to study, but my 3-year old has been getting up early as well, interrupting the morning time I set aside to review/learn my concepts. I also have 2-2.5 hours of study time set aside at night, but some nights I’m so exhausted that I end up crashing a hour into it. Has anyone worked through their test prep in this type of situation and managed to make it work? Any suggestions you’d like to share?
Part of me thinks I can do it if I just keep powering through and believing that I can make it work, but there’s a nagging voice at the back of my head telling me that I’m not giving myself enough time. I would have on problem taking the MCAT in September, but I don’t want to have to worry about MCAT test prep along with having to keep up with the course load of another class once the fall term starts at the end of August. I have a lot of review to do for my MCAT.
Any thoughts? Anyone want to commiserate? Anything would be appreciated!
