2015-2016 application cycle

Let it begin.

Holy crap time flies. It does not feel like it’s been a year since I submitted my applications.

Good luck to everyone applying this cycle!

Just submitted! Now the wait. Best wishes to anyone else applying this cycle.

Hey everyone!

I’ve been kind of absent but I met many of you at the conference last year in D.C.!

Submitted AACOMAS on 6/2 and AMCAS on 6/3. AACOMAS got held up by a wayward transcript and is still verifying, but AMCAS is verified and ready to ship out (as I understand they release materials to schools on July 1st). Twiddling thumbs and trying to pre-write secondaries now.

Nice! Had hoped to submit at the beginning of the month, too. Life got busy and put me behind by a few weeks. AACOMAS in verification. AMCAS held up by lost transcript. Resent and waiting for it to arrive.

Good Luck!

My plans to link right from my post-bac fell through so I’m in this application cycle. Fortunately, almost my entire app saved from last year, making the disappointment a bit easier to swallow – at least I didn’t have to reenter every course. Just waiting for 1 transcript.

I have 15-16 schools on my list and I’m back and forth on a few. What is everyone doing in terms of the number of schools? I tried using MSAR, but since the MCAT scores don’t make sense for the new test, I don’t know if I’m creating the best mix of schools to apply to.

I ended up with 22, roughly equally split MD/DO. Geography was a significant factor for me. Everything verified and transmitted to schools as of mid-July. Gulp turns out that’s a lot of essays when the secondaries started rolling in. A few more of those to go…

Had a glitch in the transmission of my MCAT scores to AACOMAS. Had them sent from AAMC back in June but AACOMAS did get them for whatever reason. I didn’t catch it until last week. Turns out some DO schools will send you a secondary based upon your unofficial scores. Others will wait until the official scores are sent. Figured this out when I called to find out why I got a secondary from LECOM-Erie but not LECOM-Bradenton. Lesson Learned: If you don’t get positive acknowledgement that the school has received your app, may be worth a call; they could be waiting for something.

Hi all! I’ve been busy all summer working on apps, traveling the world, and planning my wedding (18 days to go, but who is counting?)

I applied to 31 schools. Primary app submitted June 9th (I think?). Got official MCAT 2015 score shortly after (I took the April exam). Secondaries started rolling in July 1st. I’ve gotten secondaries from all schools and have submitted all of them except for 1 (final edits to the ridiculous essay questions in progress now).

3 interviews lined up so far - all 3 within the same week in early September. Looks like I need a new suit ASAP.

1 rejection already (!!!).

congrats on the interviews! Hopefully the cycle ends early for you!!

Update, since this has been a quiet board lately. Perhaps others will come out of hiding with updates!

The cycle is essentially over for me - I went on 5 interviews, 2 rejections pre-interview, and complete silence from 23 other programs. I have been accepted into my top choice (top state school and I will get in-state tuition)!! I will take any future interview offers on a case-by-case basis, but likely I won’t be attending any more. I interviewed at a fantastic program (Ivy league) that isn’t rolling, so technically I’m still waiting to hear, but I want to be practical and realistic with myself.

I’ll be an MD, class of 2020! It feels absolutely surreal.

Awesome! Congrats!

congrats!!!

Usually a lurker on here, but figured I’d chime in after reading others’ posts!

I applied to a fairly small number (12) MD schools in the northeast, with secondaries marked complete at start of September on average. I have had 2 interview invites at state schools so far, with 1 interview completed this week, 1 to come in January. Still anxiously awaiting further interviews though, as would like to stick closer to my current home so I don’t have to work the long distance marriage (yikes!). I think I could have helped myself out by getting those secondaries in earlier, but my committee letter wasn’t ready until the start of August anyhow, so my procrastination only added a little time to the turnaround.

Good luck to all applying this cycle!

I’ve been pleasantly surprised to get 4 MD interviews with what I consider a pretty weak MCAT score. I’m not entirely satisfied because 1-2 of the schools tends to interview a lot of people for not a lot of seats, so I’d feel more comfortable with another interview or two.

I really get where the whole neurotic stereotypes of pre-meds comes from now. This process is making me neurotic. It seems so random and nontransparent – there’s a school I’d looooove to go to and think I match up well with by mission; radio silence from them. Meanwhile there’s a school that’s a complete reach given my MCAT and I have an interview there while some friends with better stats don’t. I know it’s not just about numbers though.

Every day I’m checking my secondary status pages just hoping an interview tab appeared. I wish schools wouldn’t silently reject so then I’d know whether I’m truly in the running.

Just curious how fellow oldpremeds are doing this cycle…

I have lots of secondaries out there…still no interviews. Starting to get discouraged. My advisor says that everything sees slower this year…I’m hoping she’s right.

Just curious where other people were at and I have vowed to stay off of SDN.

I’ve gone to 4/5 interviews, next one is in January. I had expected to hear from a school today that has a one-week turn around, but instead they told me my status is on hold pending further discussion. It’s not clear from the phrasing of the email whether I’m specifically on hold as an applicant or they just didn’t get to me. I’m freaking out a little, it’s in my top 1 or 2 choices.

Silence from the other 12 schools I applied to (all MD). Most of my friends have 1-3 interviews and silence from the rest. This cycle does seem to be pretty slow all around for people I know.

Stay off SDN! But there is a list of schools they put together of places that already sent rejections and it’s a little calming to see schools on the list I did apply to. It means there is a chance it’s not a silent rejection yet.

I can’t believe I finally get to post this, but I’m going to be a doctor! I was accepted at one of my top choices today and I’m just so thrilled. All of the years to get to this point, all of the stress – emotional and financial – of applying, all of the doubts that crept in all became worth it in one moment!

Congrats! That’s a great xmas present!

Well I applied to 3 DO programs and 6 MD programs, I got secondaries from all programs. I was rejected from one MD program pre interview and have not heard from 2. I have not hared from 1 DO program. I have interviewed at 2 MD programs and 2 DO programs. I have been wait listed at my top choice MD program and have not heard form the other post interview yet. I was accepted to both of the DO programs I interviewed at and have withdrawn from 1. I am holding an acceptance to my top choice DO program and am wait listed at my top choice MD program. I have one final MD interview in Jan.

Either was I am going to be a doctor!! The reality is I will have to hang up my social worker title and will get to put on the title of doctor!

Congratulations to all that have been accepted and to those that haven’t yet keep your heads up its not over yet!
