Greetings all!
Longtime observer posting for the first time. I thought it appropriate to make an introduction in advance of attending the conference this weekend.
In a nutshell, I’m beginning my premed journey as a successful military career nears its end. I suppose that categorizes me as a career changer…one toward the older end of the spectrum .
Sometime ago, I felt the tug to transition my service to the field of medicine. I was, however, slow to act as I thought it impossible at my age. On a whim, I ran an Internet search for “non-traditional medical student.” At the top of the list was OPM. The many inspiring stories I found here–several from folks more seasoned that I–convinced me that medical school was within the realm of the possible.
At present, I am working on the pre-reqs I lack and prepping for the MCAT. I intend to apply next year for matriculation (hopefully) in 2016.
No specific questions at this time. I’m sure I’ll tap the collective wisdom of OPM at some point. Rather, just a heartfelt thanks for the inspiration and motivation provided by those who have shared their journeys.
Looking forward to the conference!
Go, Speedracer, go!!!
Welcome
That’s exactly what happened to me. Felt a calling into medicine, thought I was “too old”, and did an internet search for “old premedical student”. Found OPM first try, and was inspired by the posters on here. AND…graduated last Saturday! Starting residency July 1st.
Best of luck to you and I look forward to meeting you at conference in a few days!
