Like Mary Renard, OldManDave... I miss them. Mary especially. She always had a way of putting things directly without being offensive, and behind the PM was one of my, I felt, greatest supporters.
/sigh
I hope I don't follow that trend but I imagine, if I get in, I will follow suit.
It is difficult. I too miss Mary and Dave's frequent postings. However, the further I get from pre-med, the more I understand. I, too, find it difficult to find the time to post the detailed, thoughtful replies like I once did.
There are lots of reasons. Of course, I am just busy. Not that my life as a resident has a ridiculous workload, but you add that in with family and life in general and somehow time just gets away from you.
I think a big reason, though, is that the further we get away from being a pre-med and the application process, the less accurate our info/perception may be. Things are always changing in the pre-med world. Right now, things are basically the same as when I applied, but I see them changing significantly with the new MCAT and etc. I also remember from being a pre-med that feeling that those who were closer to having been through the process had more accurate advice than those who were farther out. Fortunately, you see as time goes on that a new crop of OPMers moves on to the next level and adds advice.
Another reason for moving on is evolving interests (coupled with lack of time). OMD has become very involved in CC, a new role as faculty, and some private business ventures. I am contemplating my next step beyond med school and find that it involves spending time on a lot of non-OPM related reading.
