Snowgirl!
I’m so sorry about your nerve disorder, and I definitely hope they’ll fix it and you’ll feel better.
As to the deposit…I’d say ‘PAY!’…but again, it’s not my money, and not my decision to make.
I know that $750 is a lot, but if you get accepted to Texas, you won’t have to pay $1250 in March, b/c you should know before that.
But if you don’t (let’s hope it’s not the case, but on the other hand, we’ve all heard some crazy stories of confusion and mess-ups in admission process), think about all the money you’ll have to spend next year to apply again.
So if you think, that in case you don’t get accepted to any Texas school, you’ll be happy to go to NOVA, pay the money. If you have any doubts about the place - do not.

Now I can finally implement my devious plan. At my next interview, I'm going to try to subtly slip in the name of every Led Zeppelin song. I figure I'll start with the more obscure ones...
Yeah, I really feel that I have to give myself No Quarter, or I'll be Trampled Underfoot. High school for me has been Ten Years Gone, and I've made some mistakes from them - they're Nobody's Fault But Mine. It was just a Communication Breakdown, really, and now I look at it as Achilles Last Stand. Thank You for this opportunity!

Hey Adam...that is great! Congratulations! I had hoped when I saw new posts for the Acceptance thread, you would have posted!

Hi Snowgirl,
Hoping the best for Texas, but I would definitely pay the $750 and think of it as an insurance just in case. Until you actually get something in writing from Texas, don’t let yourself find yourself with no spot.

snowgirl-
as a fellow Texan (Dallas) I am thrilled to see our state rising! I hope to learn from you the joys and frustrations of applying in TX even though mine will not be until next yr. still finishing up organic and physics. but I will offer some advice as a banker and MBA. I usually tend to err on the side of caution and take the “bird in the hand” approach. I know it’s an old tale, but it rings true to me especially during Christmas time. I once asked for a 4 wheeler for Christmas when I was a little boy, my dad gave me an option. there was a used 4-wheeler in someone’s yard that was reasonably priced, and then there was the potential, but not guranteed, possibility of getting a BRAND NEW 4 wheeler. my dad told me the story of the bird in the hand vs. two in the bush…after that, I told him that my wanting a 4-wheeler in general was my ultimate goal and that i would take the used one if it meant i’d get to have one at all. Turns out this was a lesson in life and on Christmas day I ended up with a brand new Yamaha! I digress, but you see the point in by taking the bird in the hand “NOVA” you may very well end up with that bird in the bush- TEXAS!!! either way… your ultimate goal will be realized, Matriculation into Medical school nice to meet you
Adam,
I love your choice of songs! . . . and by the way, CONGRATULATIONS!!!
I am happy to add my name to the acceptances thread. I got my phone call from the dean yesterday and my official letter in the mail today. I waited until I received the letter before posting.
I have been accepted to the Class of 2012 at Lincoln Memorial University - DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, TN.
I am so thrilled. I am going to be a doctor!
Love,
Stacy

Got the AWPA letter from SIU!
Although this is the acceptance “list” it doesn’t necessarily guarantee an acceptance per se. Although 90% of the people on the AWPA list received acceptances last year.
If you’re not familiar with how SIU does their admissions - it’s a little different. After you interview, you’re placed on one of 4 lists - AWPA (accept when place available), waitlist, prospective reapplicant (meaning if you improve your application you stand a great chance next year), or rejection.
SIU has 72 seats in it’s freshman class, and they only offer 72 acceptances in 3 batches (December, Feb., and March). They have about double the number on the AWPA list, and AWPA applicants are ranked. The top 72 are offered acceptances first, and your position can change between December, Feb. and March as more people interview and are added to the list. If someone declines an acceptance, then they move down the AWPA list giving out acceptances until after May when they get 72 that commit. I was told about 15 people on the AWPA list last year did not get in, of about 155 AWPA applicants, or looking on the brighter side, 90% of the AWPA list members DID get acceptances.
Anyway, you have to be on the AWPA list to get an actual acceptance, so I’ve cleared that hurdle, and now I’m about 90% likely to get a real acceptance
